Covered Decks

covered deck with screened in porch

From elaborate custom screen rooms with stone pillars and fireplaces to pop-up gazebos from a department store, it seems like everybody’s trying to cover their decks these days. And we totally get it! Covering all or part of your deck can greatly increase the amount of time you spend enjoying it. You will create a cozy space to host parties, a shaded area for hot summer days, and potentially a warmer spot for chilly fall evenings.

We have built lots of covered decks in all shapes and sizes. Some of them have open sides, some are enclosed with screens. Our talented carpenters do all this work, so we don’t need to hire sub-contractors. However, we do not build sunrooms for this reason. We simply don’t have the tools or experience to finish the interior with drywall and carpet. Instead, we prefer to stick to what we know, and not have to hire sub-contractors. While we do install the roofing & siding for our own covered deck projects, we do not do any roof or siding replacement projects. If you are in need of a contractor for a roof or siding replacement, check out our friends at Hillcrest Roofing & Siding

3 basic roof styles

Hip Style Roof

This is our most popular style of roof. It can be built with an octagon front or a straight front.

This is the most versatile roof style. It can be adapted to fit almost any house, and can easily be screened in for a 3 season room.

Porch Style Roof

This is generally the most cost-effective roof style. However, it can only be used for small to medium sized porches on certain types of houses.

All of these roof styles can be customized with many options. You can choose square posts or round columns, an open vaulted ceiling or closed-in ceiling. We can add skylights, ceiling fans, recessed lighting, and all types of low-voltage lighting. All of these styles can be screened in. We have also added some really cool options to our covered decks over the years, including outdoor kitchens, bar tops, benches, planter boxes, and stone pillars to name a few. So, if you have an idea or a picture of something that you want to be included, just let us know. We love to try new things.

I am a fan of having a covered section of the deck, as well as an uncovered section. This will give you the option of sitting in sun on cooler days or staying cooler in the covered area on hot days. You can also add some patio heaters to extend the outdoor season. Our customers have added a lot of cool features to their covered decks, from ceiling fans and lighting to outdoor TVs. All of these things will add to the appeal of your outdoor space.

If you would like a covered deck but your budget only allows for an uncovered deck, let your deck builder know during the design process. For a very little extra cost, by adding a few posts and footers, your deck can be designed to support a roof. In the future, a roof can easily be added without re-doing your existing deck.

Gazebos...We can also add a gazebo to your deck. Check out our Gazebo page for more information.
